Students get a taste for event management
Barnsley College Higher Education International Travel and Tourism (Events) students have been inspired by a trip to Leeds to enhance their knowledge of event management.
The day trip provided the students with an opportunity to gain experience of event management and hospitality. The students spent time visiting First Direct Arena, Malmaison Hotel Leeds and the city famous for its artistic heritage and varied culture.
Trips run every year to allow students to experience different cultures, visit iconic locations and give them the opportunity to gather information and materials that will help with their studies.
Izzy-Jo Benson, an International Travel and Tourism (Events) HND student, said: “It was very interesting to learn more about how companies use event management and it has inspired me to start my own event company. I’ve grown in confidence and we enjoyed being able to socialise with each other.”
Andrew Hallott, HE Teaching Associate, added: “Educational visits like this provide our students with an opportunity to further develop their understanding and communication skills. The students were a credit to themselves and the College. We will get some feedback from the students and use this to plan for next year!”
