Redtooth Limited – The Story So Far…
In 1998, Martin Green, the managing director of Redtooth, started his journey into corporate life when launching his inaugural company ‘Hemlock Promotions’ from his parents’ attic.
Realising there was a huge gap in the market, Martin started introducing a series of quizzes to pubs, launching his first quiz at The Pike & Heron, Tinsley in March 1990.
In the early noughties Redtooth became a limited company, with Martin Green and Steve Saul the founding directors. Martin and Steve worked fiercely to grow the business and purchased rival quiz companies Baird Leisure & Quizline21, acquiring a portfolio of quizzes and more than 1000 weekly customers to add to the database.
Quiz enthusiast Jeremy Beadle was ‘Game For A Laugh’ and wanted to be part of the action and got involved in the development of the UK’s most popular pub quiz ‘It’s Your Round’. The popularity of The NEW It’s Your Round quiz was unprecedented and saw the product being dispatched to more than 1200 pubs a week. With quizzing in the height of fashion, Tim Smithies came on board as Creative Director, providing valuable insight on larger events and productions. To cater for the growing business and office the team moved to its current premises on Gander Lane in Barlborough.
In 2007 it was time for a new adventure, introducing what is now the biggest UK Pub Poker league, Redtooth Poker. With Carlsberg as the official sponsor and connections into the professional poker world, Redtooth Poker would subsequently prove to be a triumph. Over the next few years the TV coverage of poker helped to increase popularity and awareness at an amazing rate, and Redtooth’s growth has mirrored this. As the market leader Redtooth acquired several rival poker companies, but always concentrated on providing exceptional service and entertainment for the local pub trade.
2010 saw Redtooth featured on BBC News, promoting the importance of quizzes and entertainment and services in pubs. The business continued to thrive, and with Redtooth Poker now receiving large shipments of poker equipment from China on a quarterly basis, a 3000 sq ft warehouse was opened.
A life-long passion of MD Martin is Sheffield United, and his dream came to life when Redtooth came the official shirt sponsors of the club in 2012. This was coupled with the renaming of Sheffield United Youth academy to The Redtooth Academy.
The company’s development also continued with the introduction of Redtooth Darts, with more than 100 pubs, clubs and bars taking part.
In 2013, recognising that Redtooth were the trivia brand leader in the UK – Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett joined Redtooth as a quiz writer and brand ambassador. Also in 2013, two-time UK Pub Quiz Champion Dave Bill joined the quiz writing staff.
Remodelling of the Redtooth Poker League also happened in the same year, with the league culminating in the new “VEGAS100” event, increasing the prize pool to a whopping £270,000 and flying out more than 250 players and guests to take part in the Main Event at The Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.
This proved a huge success and Redtooth Poker was named best poker league at the UK Poker Awards for two consecutive years.
Following the purchase of “The Nuts” – Britain’s second biggest poker league – Redtooth cemented its position at the head of an already huge poker market.
Grosvenor Casinos, the UK’s largest casino operator were brought on board as a partner to assist in the running of live and online tournaments. This also saw another expansion venture for Redtooth with the introduction of Casino Nights and corporate events.
In 2015 and 2016, Redtooth provided a range of live entertainment and casino services to Magna for the Science Adventure Centre’s highly popular Christmas events.
The quizzes continued to expand with the team establishing contacts in Holland to secure the best technology available, giving Redtooth customers an innovative and revolutionary cheat-proof interactive experience. This led to numerous charity dinners and balls including the Sheffield United 125th Celebration at Ponds Forge.
In 2019 the Directors and the team are extremely excited and driven to meet new goals and continue to offer the licensed trade great customer services and products to drive sales.
The latest arm of the business is Redtooth Memorabilia, a joint venture which saw a merger with Steel City Memorabilia. This involved opening new premises in Meadowhall (The Fan Cave) and the start of a framing service from our S43 warehouse facilities, a side of the business which is set to welcome new customers and grow Redtooth’s client base.
