What is Phoenix Sports and Recreation?
Phoenix sports and recreation (formally Phoenix Sports and Social Club) were formed in the early 1930s. Land to the south of the Sheffield Road Steelworks, which had been laying fallow since the First World War, was developed by Steelworks volunteers. The first game of golf was played in 1932 on a basic 9 Hole Course.
Since its inception, PSR (Phoenix Sports and Recreation) has developed and grown to become an integral part of the local and wider community. This was cemented in 2016 when charity status was achieved, making PSR truly available for public benefit.
