About

The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre provides apprenticeship programmes focused on industry-based learning, alongside training in a real-world manufacturing environment to create the engineers of tomorrow.

Offering advanced, higher and degree apprenticeships, ranging from A-level equivalent level three, through to a level six bachelor degree, in subject areas including machinist technician, welder, automation and controls engineering, as well as composites, toolmaking, mechanical manufacture and nuclear manufacturing.

The AMRC Training Centre combines classroom learning and shop floor industrial experience, while providing an earn-as-you learn framework - and provides pathways for new apprentices getting started, through to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for those looking to upskill or reskill. It provides a high-quality alternative to traditional academic study that supports the ever-changing needs of industry, but meets the manufacturing needs of the future.

It works with more than 250 companies from a diverse range of sectors including McLaren Formula 1, Heineken, AstraZeneca, Boeing and ITM-Power, alongside smaller businesses like AESSEAL, Forgemasters, Tribosonics, NiftyLift and Polypipe Building Products, that are the lifeblood of UK manufacturing.

As part of the University of Sheffield, a Russell Group University, the AMRC Training Centre also draws on the expertise of neighbouring world-leading research and innovation cluster, the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). It is also part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology, a collaboration of educators and employers, backed by the Department for Education to deliver world-class higher technical education.
