Dr Veronica Broomes
Veronica Broomes, a Sustainability Expert and Entrepreneur, is the Founder of the Sustainability Support Service at Peak Homes Yorkshire (PHY Ltd), a Sheffield-based business and Member of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber.
At PHY Ltd, Dr Broomes supports companies with bespoke Sustainability Training (online and offline), preparation of Carbon Reduction Plans and conducting cost-effective and expert-led Sustainability Audits. Using an innovative digital online portal, sustainability audit reports with customised action plans are developed to help integrate ‘People, Planet and Profit’ in day-to-day operations across the business. Actions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions, increasing savings made with talent retention and create ‘fit for future’ business strategy to improve competitiveness, assess scope 3 carbon emissions in supply chains and deal with legislation on carbon emissions reduction, carbon tax and social value.
Veronica’s journey to entrepreneurship began in the mid 1990s when she changed direction in her career from working as a Senior Research Scientist and Plant Biotechnologist in an agricultural research laboratory.
As an entrepreneur with direct experience of starting and growing businesses (training in leadership and management, environmental consultancy practice and serviced accommodation), Veronica takes a dynamic, resourceful and professional approach and is committed to lifelong learning. She has worked on initiatives funded by multinational agencies, central and local governments as well as business support agencies and private sector organisations in the UK and overseas. In addition, Veronica is a Business Growth Mentor through the UK Government’s Help to Grow Programme and was successful in winning a place on the six-month NatWest Accelerator programme.
Veronica’s academic qualifications includes a PhD in Plant Science from the University of Sheffield, post-graduate certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment from University of London’s Wye College (now Imperial College) and Masters of Law degree (LLM) from The Open University. Committed to continuous professional development, Dr Broomes is a member of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) and an affiliate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). She is Rotarian and volunteers with giving the monthly new members talk for Direct Members of Rotary Great Britain and Ireland.
Matt Travis
Matt Travis is a founding director of Enzygo Environmental Consulting Group which has been trading for 13 years employing over 50 staff with group revenues in excess of £5 million. With previous experience as an Ops director within a FTSE 250 Plc Matt is well placed to mentor on a number of areas having started Enzygo with 3 staff in 2008 developing it into a regional UK business with an extensive client portfolio.
